I run a program aimed at providing information, support and mentoring to women and gender diverse students who are enrolled in or eligible to enroll in advanced mathematics and statistics units. The goal is to encourage participation of these under-represented students in our advanced units; to provide support and improve the study experience for these students; and to foster community among the students across year levels.

There are several pillars to the Program:

• Pre-semester information via email and info sessions

• Mentoring and academic advice in small groups of mixed year levels (with one academic and one senior student mentor per group)

• Mathematics and statistics talks, events, and introduction to student research opportunities

• Yearly feedback surveys

• Celebrations

While there are no miracles in EDI, the program has made a noticeable difference in both participation and satisfaction.
